Stefano Strocchi is a Berlin based independent author and documentary producer. He worked extensively as producer on international co-productions since 2001, focusing on character driven stories, social issues, current affairs and history. His early producers work include the 2004 series Uncorked in Italy produced by Stefilm International and National Geographic Channel, the 2006 series Building the Winter Gamesfor Discovery Channel Europe.
Among his productions: Almost Married by F. Bucak (IDFA First Appearence Competition 2010), the cross-media doc series From Zero – Stories from earthquake emergency camps in co-production with Jazeera English (IDFA 2009, TFF2009, Bellaria 2010), and Return to L’Aquila by G. Barbieri in co-production with Al Jazeera English (2011). In 2013 he wrote and directed the feature doc La Politica in co-production with ZDF/ARTE, DR, VRT and NRK.
Since 2014 he is based in Berlin where he works as author and producer on series and feature documentaries, thanks to his 20 years experience in International co-productions, he has a strong relationship with all the European TV networks. In Berlin he wrote and produced the 3 part series 1968mm directedby Jerry Rothwell, Felix Kriegsheim and Stefano Strocchi produced by Boekamp Kriegsheim GMBH, rbb/ARTE, NRK, YLE, CZTV and A+E Italy (2018) and he co-wrote and produced the feature documentary Commander Arian by Alba Sotorra (2018) which premiered in international competition in Toronto Hot Docs 2018, Sheffield Doc Fest 2018 and Shanghai Documentary Festival 2018. In 2019 he founded in Berlin the independent production company UNKNOWN MEDIA GmbH, specialized in non-fiction series formats.
Unknown Media is currently in pre-production with the six part thriller documentary series “ART CRIMES” in co-production with rbb/ARTE, SKY Italy, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, EACEA Creative Europe and METfilmSales. The high end series will be the first produced under the newborn company Unknown Media GmbH.
We are currently developing two more series project the 4 part series “The Dome” and the 3 part “Operation Budapest”.
